This year’s line up includes; Alan Forrester\, Sally Gall\, Norman Lamont and Dog on a Swing alongside Sandy Power. \nThere’s a full bill of music including original songs and country/folk. \nHere’s a taster of what you can look forward to on the night… \nSandy Power\, a powerful solo performer with exceptional song-writing talent. \nSally Gall\, an acapella folk singer is inspired by folk songs she heard growing up which feel relevant to people today. \nNorman Lamont\, who you may be familiar with through our Euros song “We’re On Our Way!” last summer which he co-wrote/produced on. \nDog on a Swing\, the song writing name for Ed Ritchie who draws inspiration from life experience in his work. DESCRIPTION:My Dog and Other VIPs\n\nMy Dog and Other VIPs – An Exhibition of Original Art by Francis Macdonald \nFrancis Macdonald\, who drums with Teenage Fanclub and composes for Film & TV\, has taken an active interest in visual art since January 2022. Using pencil\, ink\, charcoal and oil pastel\, he draws every day and shares his work on-line. \n“I take inspiration from all sorts of people – Quentin Blake\, Willie Sutherland\, Rembrandt…and Scottish Colourist JD Fergusson who encouraged burgeoning artists to “never correct a sketch\, just make another.” \nHe returns to Dunfermline with a new exhibition which features an eclectic range of PORTRAITS (including Bob Dylan\, Michael Marra\, Gypsy Rose Lee and Kathy ‘Nora Batty’ Staff)\, STILL LIFES and studies of his pet dog SITA who was rescued from the streets of Romania in 2020. \nAs a musician Francis has worked with a broad range of artists including Alex Chilton\, Dan Penn\, Kevin Ayers\, Edwyn Collins\, Ian McCulloch\, Laura Cantrell\, Belle & Sebastian\, Camera Obscura\, Max Richter\, The Vaselines\, Julie Fowlis\, The Scottish Festival Orchestra and soloists from Scottish Ensemble. “Bonjour” – an album of ‘art songs’ created in collaboration with the London-based artist Harry Pye – was described by Mojo magazine as “Odd but good.” \nEntry is free. \n\n\n(Dogs Welcome)

Bar is open also. \nNovember 2024 marks 105 years since the birth of iconic folklorist and poet\, Hamish Henderson. \nHamish is sometimes seen as a mildly eccentric figure\, hefted to the convivial atmosphere of Sandy Bells bar in Edinburgh\, holding court amongst musicians and scholars. \nIn this new film\, artist Charles Nasmyth looks at the man behind the legend and asks who Hamish really was? Why was he inspired by his personality\, to paint Hamish’s portrait? \nA key element in Hamish’s development\, was his war-time experience in the Libyan desert. He expressed this movingly in his Somerset Maugham award-winning poems\, Elegies for the Dead in Cyrenaica. \nGrowing up under influences from all shades of society left Hamish free to navigate Britain’s class-based culture\, without feeling out of place in any company. \nParadoxically\, perhaps\, he didn’t let his socialist internationalism stand in the way of a passionate belief in self-determination for Scotland. He didn’t raise Scotland above its merits – but valued the country for what it actually is. \nCharles admires Hamish’s integrity. He never sold out or compromised his beliefs\, even when they caused personal conflict. \nThis screening is introduced by two men who knew Hamish well. \nWullie Hershaw\, editor of the Scots language magazine Lallans\, credits him with giving clout to the Scots language. \nFred Freeman Professor of Traditional Music at Scotland’s Royal Conservatoire saw at first hand\, the work Hamish did to preserve to songs and traditions of Scotland. \nFollowing the film\, Wullie and Fred will discuss Hamish’s legacy and take questions. \n  \nTickets available online at Eventbrite \n
