En Plein Air – Recent Paintings by Ian Maclachlan Scott

I have always been drawn to landscape painting and working directly out of doors. This was shaped by my early upbringing in the village of Clachaig at Glen Lean in the hills of Cowal Argyll. The Clyde estuary has a particular atmosphere and softness prompted by the West coast weather. Perthshire, by contrast, where I live just half a mile from the Tay, has a very different character. I tend to focus on the woods, fields and burn near my home.” – Ian Maclachlan Scott

The artist studied painting at Glasgow School of Art in the mid-Sixties from 1962-67, which he describes as “heady days”. His professional background has been in education, teaching at Rothesay Academy and Dunoon Grammar School, but he continued to paint throughout his career.
