KINGS OF MARIGOLD

The band was born following an event held in The Kings Theatre in Kirkcaldy to commemorate The Beatles two performances in the town in October 1963. The event saw various local solo artists playing tribute. Some networking ensued, and soon a few guys gathered together to play the Doddie Weir MND charity gig (Beatles Marathon UK) in Edinburgh in 2023. They also played the 2024 event and performed Abbey Road in its entirety, along with a mix of other Beatles tunes. Kings of Marigold was planning on performing the White Album at this year’s event in October, but sadly it has been cancelled.

Since those formative gigs, the band has played the Kings Theatre in Kirkcaldy, where a ticketed event ended up being a wildly successful night. The band also played at the Adam Smith Theatre on August 15, where they performed the ten songs the Beatles played when they did their Kirkcaldy gig in Oct ’63, as well as Abbey Road and a bunch of other classics.

The band is an ‘occasional band’- the guys all have fingers in different musical pies, but when they get together it’s fab fun and audiences love it. There are five members in the band, and they most definitely do NOT dress up as the Beatles with silly wigs! It’s really all about the music and is a great way to keep the Beatles’ superb music alive, both as a nostalgic trip for older fans, as well as bringing it to younger people. The gigs are attended by a real mix of age groups, which is fantastic, and a real illustration of how the music endures over half a century after The Beatles called it a day.
