My Dog and Other VIPs – An Exhibition of Original Art by Francis Macdonald
Francis Macdonald, who drums with Teenage Fanclub and composes for Film & TV, has taken an active interest in visual art since January 2022. Using pencil, ink, charcoal and oil pastel, he draws every day and shares his work on-line.
“I take inspiration from all sorts of people – Quentin Blake, Willie Sutherland, Rembrandt…and Scottish Colourist JD Fergusson who encouraged burgeoning artists to “never correct a sketch, just make another.”
He returns to Dunfermline with a new exhibition which features an eclectic range of PORTRAITS (including Bob Dylan, Michael Marra, Gypsy Rose Lee and Kathy ‘Nora Batty’ Staff), STILL LIFES and studies of his pet dog SITA who was rescued from the streets of Romania in 2020.
As a musician Francis has worked with a broad range of artists including Alex Chilton, Dan Penn, Kevin Ayers, Edwyn Collins, Ian McCulloch, Laura Cantrell, Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, Max Richter, The Vaselines, Julie Fowlis, The Scottish Festival Orchestra and soloists from Scottish Ensemble. “Bonjour” – an album of ‘art songs’ created in collaboration with the London-based artist Harry Pye – was described by Mojo magazine as “Odd but good.”
Entry is free.
