Allan Stroud
Painter
I was born in 1984 in Edinburgh and from a very young age, I was always drawing. I grew up in Portobello, overlooking the sea, and from an early age I was drawing ship, planes and all kinds of other machines. Drawing eventually gave way to painting, but as I grew older I never thought seriously about art as anything beyond something I did for my own enjoyment. As a result, I did not attend art college and I have never received any formal art training. After attempting several careers in archaeology, offices and the NHS, I realised that the one true constant in my life was art and that what I really wanted to do was paint. My interest is in painting naturalistically and faithfully rendering a subject, often in great detail. I now work exclusively in oils and in addition to my early love of ships and planes, I paint portraits and urban landscapes.
